Dr. Josh Axe Praises Lure Essentials Cupping Therapy Sets as Alternative at Home Treatment

Over the past year, Lure Essentials pliable and easy to use cupping technology has been recognized as the industry leader and innovator in cupping therapy for both professional and home care use. Whether coming from beauty editors at major publications or from some of the most sought-after aesthetic practitioners, Lure takes pride in being the number one trusted supplier of cupping therapy sets for Olympic athletes, physiotherapists, licensed massage therapists, acupuncture therapists and sports medicine practitioners, as well as supplying elite spas, med spas and destination spas like the Four Seasons, Six Senses and many more. Recently, Dr. Josh Axe was added to our list of supporters when he described Lure Essentials cupping therapy kits as being easy to use and incredibly effective tools for supporting the management of chronic pain, inflammation and body wellness.

Lure Essentials was truly honored to be recognized by Dr. Axe, a notable figure in the ancient and alternative remedy sphere. Dr. Josh Axe is as a certified Naturopath, Doctor of Chiropractic and Clinical Nutritionist, and is one of the world’s most renowned natural health practitioners. Having nursed his own injuries and worked with Olympians to provide musculoskeletal support at the 2012 Games, Dr. Axe is no stranger to the benefits of cupping therapy. During a recent Instagram Live session with his wife, Dr. Chelsea Axe, Dr. Josh Axe said that cupping therapy has great benefits for helping get rid of pain, improving circulation and overcoming bronchitis.  He also identified key ailments that our EDGE, ZEN, ENERY and CHAKRAcupping sets can help to address, namely chronic pain of the muscles and tendons, stagnation, digestion, respiratory illnesses and poor skin health.

Though cupping only made its way into mainstream consciousness during the 2016 Summer Olympics where Michael Phelps was photographed sporting cupping marks, it is actually an ancient medical practice that has origins in China, Eastern Europe, Egypt and the Middle East. This method of pain relief and treatment spans many cultures and dates back thousands of years. Now, Eastern and Western medical practitioners alike recognize that injury, pain and tightness in the body are caused by inflammation and poor circulation of the blood. Unlike massage which relieves tension by applying positive pressure to the tissue and muscles, cupping uses negative pressure to lift blood capillaries and muscles towards the surface of the skin. When the fascia is separated, the body’s blood vessels expand to increase the free flow of blood to the areas of concern. It’s this increased blood-flow to the body’s ailing muscles and connective tissue that can leave cupping marks or bruises (like the ones seen on Michael Phelps) at the cup’s point of contact on the body. Cupping marks are typically a sign of stagnation (poor blood circulation), tight or bound fascia, toxins or previous injury.

“Cupping therapy works by bringing fresh blood, platelets and growth factors to an area of the body that needs healing,” said Dr. Axe. “Whether performed wet or dry, the vacuum suction action in cupping therapy has a similar effect on the body as having a deep tissue massage but only requires one third of the time. Ultimately, moving fresh blood from one area to another (that is, improving circulation) is excellent for healing, pain reduction and muscle spasm.” Hence, our tagline: 5 minutes of cupping is equivalent to 30 minutes of deep tissue massage.

Three main methodologies of cupping therapy exist – wet cupping (medical - where tiny cuts are made in the patient’s skin to remove stagnant blood with the vacuum typically using a hand pistol style gun to create suction); dry cupping (where cups are fixed to the skin with pistol style vacuum, plastic or silicone cups, glass and rubber bulb cups, or through the use of glass jars and flammable alcohol or herbs); Wet cupping, fire and glass jars techniques along with some of the hand pistol gun vacuum therapy treatments are best left to the pros, where silicone and glass with rubber bulb cups are more user friendly and intuitive for self-care application. It is always critical to follow proper protocol and check contra-indications before use.

Traditionally, cups used in therapy were made from glass, ceramic and even animal horns, whereas today, with technological progression, we were able to develop cups with pliable, user friendly silicone that’s also easy to clean and take along on travel or on the go use. Uniquely, the Lure Essentials EDGE cups are engineered with ultra transparent platinum premium grade medical silicone and our other cups like GLAM, ZEN, BLISS, ENERGYand CHAKRAare made with premium food grade silicone. Both types of silicone are naturally antimicrobial and hypoallergenic and do not require fire or a pistol to operate, they are incredibly user friendly; the organic, pliable silicone is easy for amateurs to control and work with. “What I love about the Lure’s cupping sets is their ease of use, which is perfect for individuals to use on themselves at home to support their own recovery after a big workout or to help relieve tension and stress after a long day,” said Dr. Josh Axe. Although Lure’s cups are widely used by professionals in the fields of health, wellness and beauty, our mission is to make this remarkable ancient, yet very effective modality affordable and accessible for at-home use.
